Holland Bakery Systems Relies on UniStream PLC for Precision and Efficiency

Industry - Food and Beverage

Smart Recipe Management, Real-Time Monitoring, and Seamless Data Logging

Holland BakeryEasy Recipe management. DataLogging to Excel. Speed. Clear, readable, modern design. These features—and more— led Henk Holland of Holland Bakery Systems in Rijssen to implement the Unitronics UniStream PLC in his projects.

A Legacy of Innovation in Bakery Automation

Over twenty years ago, Henk Holland started his company because there are many opportunities for automation in the production process of a bread and pastry bakery. Through automation, bakeries can operate more efficiently, enhance quality control, and achieve better profit margins. Over the years, Holland Bakery Systems has built a strong reputation for delivering innovative solutions tailored to the baking industry’s unique challenges.

Henk always has new ideas regarding problem-solving within the baking industry. His expertise in the field stems from his upbringing—having spent his childhood in his grandfather’s bakery and later working extensively in the industry. In 1992, he decided to fully focus on developing specialized machinery and custom automation solutions for bakeries. His company has since introduced numerous advancements, including the highly successful PLC-controlled Dough Process Computer (DPC)

Why Unitronics PLC Control?

To bring his ideas to life, Henk Holland frequently relies on the Unitronics

UniStream PLCs from Isotron. Holland Bakery Systems has developed a user-friendly system that allows the operator to create a dough preparation recipe directly on the color touchscreen of the Unitronics UniStream PLC.

The PLC’s interactive, intuitive touchscreen interface guides the operator through predefined steps to compose a recipe which is then stored on the SD memory card in the PLC.

The system also enhances traceability—once an employee initiates the process, the relevant recipe steps are displayed on-screen, ensuring clarity and consistency in dough preparation.

Advanced Recipe Handling & Seamless Integration

Because the UniStream PLC series comes standard with two integrated Ethernet ports, a network connection can be established from the PLC to an office PC. This allows the baker to monitor the production process from the office.

In addition to the UniStream PLC in the production room, this office PC can also serve as a station to compose or manage recipes. These are then sent to the PLC at the dough machine. Because a PC is integrated into the process, it is also possible to store all recipes, trending, and logging data from the PLC on this PC and display them in Excel.

Monitoring and Remote Operation

An additional advantage is that they can operate and monitor the entire system remotely via VNC viewer. Henk Holland indicates that this way of working is very successful, especially in situations where incidents occur. Because the UniStream PLC also has its own Password Protection System, users can log in at different levels, for example at Operator or Service level.

Why Choose Unitronics PLC Control?!

The UniStream PLC’s combination of advanced hardware functions and free Unilogic™ programming software offers Holland Bakery Systems many advantages and extra incentive for Holland to choose Unitronics.

Unilogic’s object-oriented structure was a plus point—they found the software both easy and very pleasant to program work with.

The HMI is extremely important to these applications—the vibrant color touchscreen remains legible, providing exceptional readability, even under artificial lighting conditions, while the rapid cycle speed ensures smooth operation

Isotron, as a Unitronics distributor, is involved in issues where customers are looking for the right solutions for their industrial automation challenges.

The Unitronics UniStream PLC line was introduced in the Benelux in 2014. Since that time, these products have remained consistently popular among Isotron’s customers. The combination of PLC-HMI and I/O in one product, together with the simple and free UniLogic application software, has already led to many interesting projects with the UniStream.

With Unitronics UniStream PLCs, Holland Bakery Systems continues to drive efficiency, quality, and innovation in the baking industry—one perfectly automated recipe at a time.
